James Andrews, MD, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine will offer a third opinion on Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Shelby Miller's elbow, according to Arizona Sports.
Here are five things to know:
1. Mr. Miller was placed on the disabled list on Monday, April 24 with right elbow inflammation.
2. Team physician Gary Waslewski, MD, of Phoenix-based OrthoArizona initially examined Mr. Miller.
3. The pitcher sought the second opinion of Neal ElAttrache, MD, of Los Angeles-based Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic on Tuesday, April 25.
4. The pitcher's MRI was sent to Dr. Andrews on Wednesday, April 26 for a third opinion.
5. The team hopes to hear back from Dr. Andrews on Thursday, April 27.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said, "It was part of the plan that we had talked about all along, where we were going to have this group (of doctors) look at it and come together and get as much information as we possibly could and pass it along to Shelby and figure out what the best game plan is."
