Campbell Medical Clinic in Houston added the stromal vascular fraction procedure, according to a Feb. 28 news release.
Suhyun An, MSN, led the initiative to bring the procedure to the clinic. SVF involves drawing adipose tissue-derived stem cells and is used in orthopedic patients for conditions including chondromalacia, osteonecrosis of the femoral head and osteoarthritis.
"For many years, we have successfully used stem cells from perinatal tissues to treat arthritis or autoimmune conditions but have not taken advantage of the benefits of stem cells derived from fat," Dr. An said in the release. "Now, after training and working with the Cell Surgical Network, we are going to be able to help our patients heal through the use of a minimally invasive procedure that has shown great efficacy."
