Cassandra Lee, MD, recently became one of the first surgeons in the U.S. to use the CartiHeal Agili-C cartilage repair implant.

The Agili-C implant is made from a form of calcium carbonate derived from coral exoskeletons and is used to support bone remodeling and cartilage regeneration. It was debuted in the U.S. in July 2023 by Ken Zaslav, MD.

Dr. Lee is a professor of orthopedic surgery and chief of the sports medicine division at UC Davis Health. She performed the procedure on Alicia McHatton, a neonatal nurse at UC Davis Health, according to a March 22 news release.
