Google will no longer allow advertisements for unproven or experimental medical procedures in its search results to prevent clinics from misleading patients, The Verge reports.

What you should know:

1. Google made the decision after an extensive FDA crackdown on clinics offering unproven or unsafe "stem cell therapies."

2. Google is still allowing ads that recruit patients to sanctioned clinical trials involving the treatments.

3. Google will implement the policy in October.
