Dr. Mohamad Khazaei recognized for stem cell research on spinal cord injuries

Stem Cells Translational Medicine recently awarded Mohamad Khazaei, PhD, its Young Investigator Award for his research on cell-based treatments for spinal cord injuries, reports News Medical Life Sciences.

Four things to know:

1. The award promotes innovation in stem cells and regenerative medicine by honoring researchers who authored the most impactful article in the journal over the last year.

2. Dr. Khazaei's winning paper is titled "Human Spinal Oligodendrogenic Neural Progenitor Cells Promote Functional Recovery After Spinal Cord Injury by Axonal Remyelination Following Thoracic Spinal Cord Injury."

3. In the paper, researchers explored the use of neurons and oligodendrocytes to achieve better functional recovery for spinal cord injury.

4. Researchers are eyeing a clinical trial following the findings of the paper.
