Orthopedic surgeon Scott Rodeo, MD, of New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery received a $50,000 grant from the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation to study an injectable knee biologic.
Dr. Rodeo will be the principal investigator for the study, "PRP Treatment of the ACL-Injured Knee to Decrease the Risk of PTOA," according to a July 12 news release.
"There is great interest in the potential of novel treatment of musculoskeletal conditions," Dr. Rodeo said. "This particular study of the use of an injectable orthobiologic, platelet-rich-plasma, of a common knee ligament injury may lend insight into treatments to either prevent or minimize the later development of osteoarthritis of the knee."
The grant was created to support clinical research needs in musculoskeletal care. It was financed through a partnership between the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Clinical Research Gaps fund.
