Mazor Robotics' Renaissance Guidance System reduces surgical complications, revisions: 4 highlights

A study comparing the use of Mazor Robotics' Renaissance Guidance System powered by Mazor Core technology and fluoroscopic-guided, freehand procedures found the Mazor Robotics' navigation system reduces the number of surgical complications and revision surgeries.

Researchers, presenting at the North American Spine Society annual meeting, collected data from 10 surgeons at nine U.S. sites. This is the first multi-center prospective study of robotic-guided spine surgery.

 

Here's what you should know:

 

1. Of the 379 patients enrolled in the study, 287 were in the robotic-guided category and 92 were in the fluoroscopic-guided category. Relative risk for adverse events or complications was 5.3 times higher in the fluoroscopic-guided category.

 

2. Relative risk for revisions surgery was 7.1 times higher for a fluoroscopic-guided surgery compared to robotic-guided surgery.

 

3. Christopher Good, MD, of the Virginia Spine Institute concluded, "The results of this study completely eliminated any doubt I have had about the superiority of robotic-guided spine surgery. We see remarkable improvements in patient safety and value, as well as cost savings when using Mazor Core technology-

based systems."
