NJ hospital now offers Mako system for knee replacement surgery

Imaging

Hackensack Meridian Health Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, N.J., now offers total and partial knee replacement surgery with the Mako system.

Board-certified orthopedic surgeon David Lopez, MD, performed the first case at Riverview Medical Center with the Mako system, a robotic-arm assisted technology which enables surgeons to create a personalized surgical plan.

Stryker, which owns Mako, believes that 50 percent of hospitals with orthopedic practices are candidates for the Mako system, according to Stryker COO Katherine Own. The system guides the surgeon intraoperatively and is designed to provide more accurate implant placement and alignment.
