Olivia, Minn.-based RC Hospitals and Clinics was the first facility in Minnesota to use robotic-assisted surgery, according to Inforum.com.

Here are four things to know:

1. The hospital implemented Intuitive Surgical's da Vinci X robotic-assisted surgery system.

2. RC Hospitals and Clinics general surgeon Jared Slater, MD, has performed 100 procedures with the technology, including abdominal wall reconstructions for hernias.

3. Dr. Slater said patients who undergo surgery with the da Vinci X system seem to experience less painful recoveries and reduced need for pain medication following surgery.

4. The hospital paid more than $1 million to install the fourth-generation robotic surgery system. It was the second hospital in the U.S. to install the system when it did so last year.
