Greenwich (Conn.) Hospital is the first in the region to offer robotic-assisted spine surgery with Globus Medical's ExcelsiusGPS system.
Here are five things to know:
1. Scott Simon, MD, was the first neurosurgeon to use the system at the hospital.
2. Neurosurgeons Khalid Abbed, MD, and Paul Apostolides, MD, have also started using the system at Greenwich Hospital.
3. Neurosurgeons Arianne Boylan, MD, and Andrea Douglas, MD, will begin using the system the ExcelsiusGPS for minimally invasive spine surgery in the next few weeks.
4. The system is compatible with several imaging modalities, including CT scans and fluoroscopic imaging. The images are then imported into the system, which creates a map that surgeons can use as a guide.
5. Greenwich Hospital is a 206-bed community hospital and a member of Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health System.
