Preston, Idaho-based Franklin County Medical Center acquired an orthopedic surgical robot for knee surgery, according to cachevalleydaily.com.
Here are four things to know:
1. Smith & Nephew's Navio orthopedic surgery system, nicknamed R2Knee2, is the only surgical robot of its kind in the area.
2. The system is intended for partial and total knee replacement surgeries. The system enables surgeons to collect patient-specific anatomic data, which it uses to create a real-time digital 3D model of the patient's knee.
3. The system does not require a preoperative CT scan.
4. FCMC is a 20-bed critical access hospital that also features a 35-bed skilled nursing facility.
