Prince William scrubs in to observe surgery using da Vinci Surgical System: 4 takeaways

Imaging

Prince William changed into blue scrubs to observe a surgeon at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, according to Today.

Here are four takeaways:

1. Surgeons at the hospital were using Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci Surgical System to remove a tumor from a patient’s esophagus.

2. The minimally invasive surgery system reduces surgery and recovery time, allowing the prince time to speak with the patient after surgery.

3. Prince William routinely asked physicians how to use the system as well as about the patient’s diagnosis and procedure throughout the surgery.

4. The Duke of Cambridge is the president of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, a program of robotic surgery for cancer in the United Kingdom.
