Titan Medical installs Sport Surgical System at Columbia University Medical Center: 5 things to know

Titan Medical integrated its Sport Surgical System in Columbia University Medical Center's simulation training facility in New York City.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. This is the first installation of the Sport Surgical System at an academic medical center and the second U.S. installation of the system for preclinical feasibility and validation studies.

 

2. Titan Medical plans to implement preclinical and feasibility validation studies throughout a variety of surgical disciplines at Columbia to demonstrate the utility and versatility of the Sport Surgical System.

 

3. Studies are expected to begin some time during the present quarter. Additionally, Titan Medical plans to install the Sport Surgical System in a third Center of Excellence during 2017.

 

4. The Sport Surgical System is a single-port robotic surgical system comprised of a surgeon controlled patient cart with a 3-D vision system and instruments for minimally invasive surgery.

 

5. The minimally invasive surgery system also is equipped with a surgeon workstation to provide surgeons advanced ergonomic interface to the patient cart and a 3-D endoscopic view of the patient's anatomy during the procedure.
