Augmedics to put $8.3M Series A Funding toward ViZOR MIS spine platform: 6 points

MIS

Augmedics secured millions in Series A Funding for its augmented-reality surgical visualization system, ViZOR System.

Here are six points:

1. The company secured $8.3 million, led by AO Invest, Israeli Innovation Authority, Terra Venture Partners and other investors.

2. It will put the funding toward research and development initiatives as well as ViZOR System clinical trials.

3. Augmedics will also use the funds to create distribution partnerships and obtain FDA clearance for the ViZOR System.

4. The ViZOR System is intended to offer surgeons visibility of a patient's anatomy through tissue and skin during procedures.

5. Augmedics initially designed the AR system for minimally invasive spine surgery. The system features "patented see-through AR optics to project a 3-D image of a patient's spine onto a surgeon's retina, in real-time, with surgical precision and outstanding depth perception."

6. The company plans to enhance the ViZOR System in the future by implementing a big data element to create algorithms, make suggestions and provide alerts.
