Top 5 countries publishing articles on minimally invasive spine surgery

A new study published in Spine examines worldwide productivity in minimally invasive spine surgery publishing.

 

The study authors gathered data on minimally invasive spine surgery studies from the Web of Science and found 2,051 articles meeting their criteria. From 2000 to 2015, there were 11.28 times more articles published on MIS spine surgery than before 2000.

 

The countries that published the largest article volume include:

 

1. U.S.: 855 articles, 41.7 percent
2. Germany: 245 articles, 11.9 percent
3. South Korea: 160 articles, 7.8 percent
4. China: 147 articles, 7.2 percent
5. Japan: 108 articles, 5.2 percent

 

The U.S. reported the highest average citations per article at 12.14. High-income countries published 98.73 percent of the articles. Spine published the most articles on minimally invasive spine surgery of any publication considered in the study, and it was rated the "most popular" publication in the five countries noted.
