MIS

Here are 10 studies on minimally invasive spine devices and procedures for 2018 so far:

1. Paradigm Spine published its European Study of coflex and decompression alone (ESCADA) two-year trial results in the Journal of Neurosurgery Spine.

2. George Rappard, MD, the director and founder of the Los Angeles Minimally Invasive Spine Institute, presented results on endoscopic rhizotomy for the treatment of back pain.

3. Anthony Yeung, MD, of the Phoenix-based Desert Institute for Spine Care, published a study on endoscopic decompression versus fusion procedures in the Journal of Spine.

4. A study published in Surgical Endoscopy suggests surgeons are less likely to choose minimally invasive surgery when operating on older patients.

5. SI-BONE published results from its study of long-term outcomes for its iFuse Implant System after minimally invasive spinal fusion.

6. Paradigm Spine reported the results of three subanalyses associated with coflex studies. Coflex is significantly less invasive than spinal fusion and is associated with shorter operative times, decreased blood loss and shorter hospital lengths of stay.

7. A case series publishedinJournal of Spine evaluated Wenzel Spine's VariLift-LX System.

8. A study compared surgical outcomes of Inspired Spine's oblique lateral lumbar interbody fusion to transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion in patients with a body mass index of 30 or greater.

9. Clinical Spine Surgerypublished a study that found the day a minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion is performed has no impact on length of stay or hospital costs.

10. A Journal of Neurosurgerystudy compared results from the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System against the Oswestry Disability Index and the 36-Item Short Form Survey to determine its validity for patients undergoing minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion.
