Vexim hires Russell Powers as VP, GM, looks forward to 2017 as pivotal year — 8 things to know

Spinal Tech

Vexim SA has hired Russell Powers as vice president and general manager. The French company has an office in Alpharetta, Ga., and has high hopes for 2017 and beyond.

Here are eight key points:

1. Vexim specializes in finding solutions for minimally invasive procedures for patients with vertebral compression fractures.

2. Mr. Powers' career in the medical devices field has spanned over 25 years in both the U.S. and international markets. After starting out in Smith & Nephew's trauma marketing group, he went on to hold prominent leadership roles with NuVasive and Medtronic.

3. Vexim is especially optimistic about achieving success in the near future because of the Spinejack, their most recent device that was made to anatomically restore VCFs caused by excessive craniocaudal unidirectional compression force.

4. CEO Vincent Gardes cited the fact that 2017 is the company's most pivotal, exciting year yet as the main reason for Mr. Powers' hiring at this time. Vexim plans to complete and file a dossier to the FDA for a $535 million market for Spinejack, and believes that it can start becoming extremely profitable soon thereafter.

5. Selling Spinejack in the U.S. will allow Vexim to enjoy huge markets both here and in Europe. This development is expected to further innovate and accelerate the treatment of vertebral fractures.

6. Mr. Powers believes that Vexim sets itself apart by its consistent determination to create superior, unique technology that achieves positive clinical outcomes. His goal is to maximize the company's potential through sales and support work.

7. Looking ahead, Mr. Powers says that he and Vexim will focus on low and high energy traumas, as well as tumors. He is confident that Vexim's vigorous product pipeline will help spine surgeons treat burst fractures.

8. Vexim's ability to continually progress makes Mr. Powers hopeful that they will soon be able to tap into the spine trauma market, as well.
