Exactech acquires company developing wearables for joint replacement patients

Spinal Tech

Orthopedic implant manufacturer Exactech on Dec. 2 acquired Muvr Labs, a diagnostic and digital data company that develops wearable motion sensors for joint replacement patients.

Muvr's wearable technology measures range of motion and provides clinicians with real-time data about their patients' recovery.

The device helps patients take more ownership in their recovery, according to California-based orthopedic surgeon Alexander Sah, MD.

"We have already observed an increase in exercise time, patient satisfaction and a reduction in office calls. It's also very simple to use because it doesn’t require in-office calibration, which allows patients to use the sensors at home, unsupervised."

Muvr's portfolio also features mobile device applications and chatbot texting, which help surgeons monitor patient recovery.

A pilot launch of Muvr's wearable technology is set for early next year.
