DePuy Synthes, the orthopedic arm of Johnson & Johnson, launched the Unium System for trauma and small bone procedures, according to a Nov. 22 news release.
The system has two handpieces and a variety of attachments and cutting tools. Its power unit can handle more than 1,000 charge and use cycles, reducing the cost of repair and waste, the release said.
"The Unium System significantly enhances our power tools portfolio," Funda Haine, worldwide vice president of the company's power tools segment, said in the release. "We listened closely to input from surgeons and staff and designed the Unium System to meet their precise needs. We are filling an unmet need with the Unium power tool by developing a system that is 19 percent lighter, 26 percent smaller and 18 percent more powerful than its predecessors."
