AAOS Supports SGR Repeal Efforts

Practice Management

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons supports the recent legislative efforts to repeal the sustainable growth rate.

The House Ways and Means Committee and Senate Finance Committee approved the bipartisan SGR Repeal and Medicare Beneficiary Access Improvement Act of 2013. AAOS encouraged Congress to continue to repeal and replace the SGR formula as soon as possible.

"A permanent fix of the SGR formula is essential in addressing uncertainty posed by temporary patches and in improving care delivery for Medicare patients," AAOS President Joshua Jacobs, MD, said in a news release. "While the AAOS remains concerned about some recommended changes in the legislation, we appreciate the committee's recent revisions and look forward to enacting legislation that will reward quality practitioners and ensure the highest quality of care fore Medicare patients."

The North American Spine Society recently released a statement as well expressing concerns with the new legislation.
