EHR Implementation Timeline: 5 Statistics

Around one-third medical practices took up to six months to complete electronic health record implementation, according to Physician Practices' 2014 Technology Survey, sponsored by Kareo.

The survey includes a total of 1,442 respondents.

 

When asked how long it took to complete EHR implementation — from the time the system was purchased to the point at which all the providers and staff were using the system as needed — respondents reported:

 

•    A month or less — 13.1 percent
•    Up to six months — 30.6 percent
•    More than six months, less than a year — 25.2 percent
•    More than a year, less than 18 months — 14.6 percent
•    More than 18 months — 16.5 percent
