Physicians' plans in the next 3 years: 12 statistics

In the next three years, a little over half of physicians plan to continue practicing as they are now, according to Physicians Practice's 2014 Great American Physician Survey.

The survey includes responses from 1,311 physicians.


 
In the next three years, physicians plan to:

 

•    Continue practicing as I do now — 54.8 percent
•    Retire — 14.8 percent
•    Move into a different practice — 8.1 percent
•    Transition to a direct-pay practice — 7.6 percent
•    Close my practice — 4.7 percent
•    Join an accountable care organization — 4.4 percent
•    Transition to a concierge practice — 4.1 percent
•    Leave my practice to become hospital employed — 4 percent
•    Become a patient-centered medical home — 3.9 percent
•    Merge with other practices — 3.8 percent
•    Go into solo practice — 3.8 percent
•    Other — 12.9 percent
