Top 6 practice settings with highest risk of orthopedic surgeon malpractice lawsuits

Of the orthopedic surgeons who reported being sued, the percentage was highest in office-based single-specialty group practices, according to the Medscape Malpractice Report 2015: Why Orthopedists Get Sued.

The report polled nearly 4,000 physicians, including orthopedists.

 

Here are the top six practice settings with the highest rates of malpractice lawsuits filed against orthopedic surgeons:

 

•    Office-based single-specialty group practice — 82 percent
•    Hospital — 74 percent
•    Academic (non-hospital), research, military or government setting — 73 percent
•    Office-based multispecialty group practice — 71 percent
•    Healthcare organization — 64 percent
•    Outpatient clinic — 50 percent
