Harvard Medical School names Dr. James Kang inaugural Thornhill Family Professor of Orthopedic Surgery: 4 notes

Boston-based Harvard Medical School named James Kang, MD, the inaugural Thornhill Family Professor of Orthopedic Surgery on Nov. 21, 2016.

Here are four notes:

 

1. Last year, Dr. Kang joined Harvard Medical School's team as an orthopedic surgery professor and head of Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital's orthopedic surgery department.

 

2. His research centers on disc degeneration's biochemistry and the spine's biomechanics.

 

3. Specializing in spinal stenosis resulting from degenerative cervical, thoracic and lumbar disorders, Dr. Kang is internationally known for his work in the basic science and clinical treatment of the spine's intervertebral disc degeneration and osteoarthritis.

 

4. The position is named after Thomas Thornill, MD, who co-founded Brigham and Women's Orthopedic and Arthritis Center for Outcomes Research in 2006. He also co-founded Operation Walk in 2007, a program that brings surgical expertise to people with orthopedic and musculoskeletal problems in the Dominican Republic.
