2. The transition team has not commented, as of now.
3. Dr. Collins met with President Donald Trump last week, and wants to continue serving as director. The Washington Post reports Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) and entrepreneur Patrick Soon-Shiong may also be up for the position.
4. President Barack Obama named Dr. Collins to the position in 2009.
5. If not reappointed, Dr. Collins will continue his post in an NIH lab as a geneticist.
6. The Washington Post reports the Trump transition team has kept on about 50 senior Obama officials for now, to "ensure continuity in government."
