AAOS names Thomas Arend Jr. CEO — 5 things to know

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons named Thomas E. Arend Jr. CEO.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Mr. Arend will assume the CEO role on April 1 and work directly with the AAOS board of directors and executive management.

 

2. In his new role, Mr. Arend will oversee a 250 person staff and $60 million annual budget.

 

3. Mr. Arend is currently the executive vice president, COO and General Counsel at the American College of Cardiology where he is responsible for the overall financial health, operational effectiveness and strategic direction of the organization.

 

4. Karen Hackett has been AAOS' CEO for 14 years and announced her retirement last year.

 

5. Mr. Arend has experience as an attorney at Shawn Pittman, LLP and Jenner & Block. He is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and American College of Healthcare Executives.
