Americans' life expectancy may jump to more than 80 years old by 2030, an England-based Imperial College London's School of Public Health study found, according to U.S. News & World Report.
The researchers leveraged various statistical models to make their predictions.
The Lancet published the study.
Here are five things to know:
1. The study estimates American women will live an average of more than 83 years by 2030.
2. American men will live an average of 80 years by 2030.
3. Women in the United States currently live an average of 81 years and men live an average of 77 years.
4. The study authors credit public health and healthcare improvements for the boosted life spans, but urge the development of strong policies for the growing geriatric population.
5. The researchers found American life expectancy is not growing as much as others countries' life spans, which they speculate may be due to a lack of universal healthcare; high homicide rate; rising obesity; or increasing economic inequality.
