Rosemont, Ill.-based American Joint Replacement Registry announced it has collected 1 million samples of hip and knee procedure data.
Here's what you need to know:
1. The significant volume of data will lead to more comprehensive insights into joint replacement surgeries in America and will help hospital staff and patients make better-informed healthcare decisions.
2. Almost 1,000 institutions and over 6,300 surgeons participate in the AJRR, giving them access to national benchmarks and methods to compare their performance on a hospital and health system level.
3. Level II patient risk factors, comorbidities and complications data can now be submitted to AJRR's platform, which has undergone recent upgrades. The platform already included procedural and PROM data elements.
4. AJRR board of directors chair Daniel J. Berry, MD, said, "This momentous achievement would not have been possible without the help of all our participating hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and private practice groups… Our participants are very dedicated to improving orthopaedic care, and their high quality data has really made the Registry a valuable resource."
5. Founded in 2009, AJRR only began collecting data in 2013. The organization hopes to soon conduct survivorship analysis and provide risk-adjusted outcome information.
