AHCA revision: Republicans present updated health bill for Thursday vote

Practice Management

On March 20, 2017, House Republicans revealed changes to the American Health Care Act, The Hill reports.

Here are five insights:

1. The leaders hope the changes, labeled as a manager's amendment, will inspire more to vote for the bill on March 23, 2017. The AHCA requires 216 House votes for passage.

2. The revised legislation allows states to require that Medicaid beneficiaries work as well as allows states to select a Medicaid block grant instead of the cap system.

3. Another revision involves stripping federal Medicaid reimbursement for county contributions to Medicaid. Some New York Republicans believe this will help counties that do not want to participate in Medicaid as well as provide property tax relief for constituents, The Hill reports.

4. The updated bill also contains elements addressing the Republican desire for increased tax credits for older people.

5. The Hill reports the updated legislation would repeal ACA taxes this year instead of in 2018.
