Retired orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kay Kirkpatrick wins seat in Georgia senate: 5 things to know

Retired orthopedic surgeon and republican Kay Kirkpatrick, MD, won the runoff race for State Senate District 32 in Georgia on May 16, according to AJC.com.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Republicans have occupied the State Senate District 32 seat since 1995.

 

2. Dr. Kirkpatrick beat democrat Christine Triebsch, a family and juvenile attorney.

 

3. During her medical career, Dr. Kirkpatrick had worked alongside HHS Secretary Tom Price, MD. His support network helped her garner more than $300,000 for her campaign.

 

4. Her campaign focused on the Fair Tax and ACA repeal and replacement.

 

5. Dr. Kirkpatrick previously served as co-president of Resurgens Orthopaedics, with locations around Georgia.
