New York City-based NYU Langone raised more than $1.3 million and recognized Patrick Meere, MD, Tarek Sherif and Sophie Nicholson at its annual Musculoskeletal Ball Nov. 14.
Here's what you should know:
1. Dr. Meere is an orthopedic surgeon and the co-director of robotic surgery at NYU Langone. He also leads the hospital's same day and rapid discharge initiative for knee surgery patients.
Mr. Sherif is the co-founder, chairman and CEO of Medidata Solutions. Ms. Nicholson is his wife. The couple was honored for their charitable efforts. Mr. Sherif also serves on the hospital's musculoskeletal board.
2. The funding will be used to advance care at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, Rusk Rehabilitation and NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. All three organizations are based in New York City.
3. The funds will also go to help NYU Langone recruit international leaders in the orthopedic, rheumatology and rehabilitation fields.
NYU Langone physician Joseph Zuckerman, MD, said, "The work of tonight's honorees exemplifies the fact that NYU Langone is at the forefront of innovation. Dr. Meere's pioneering efforts in robotic surgery and sensor technology, and Tarek and Sophie's dedication to advancing medicine are just part of what makes our orthopedics, rehabilitation and rheumatology programs world class."
