Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mark Montgomery dies in California mudslides

Mark Montgomery, MD, of Santa Barbara (Calif.) Cottage Hospital, is among the victims of the recent mudslides throughout Southern California, according to KSBY.

Dr. Montgomery and his family were all caught in a Santa Barbara mudslide. His wife and son survived. His 22-year career as an orthopedic surgeon was remembered on social media as family and friends shared memories of Dr. Montgomery.

 

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Montgomery was a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American Society of Surgery of the Hand. He was board certified in orthopedic surgery and received additional certification in hand surgery.

 

Before coming to Cottage Hospital, Dr. Montgomery served Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, all based in Boston. He completed fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery at Harvard Medical School.

 

“We’re very saddened by the death of Dr. Mark Montgomery, who was a member of the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital medical staff,” Cottage Health said in a statement to KSBY. “Dr. Montgomery was a respected orthopedic surgeon who specialized in hand surgery. We extend sincere condolences to his family and

all who knew him as a colleague and friend. This is an enormous loss for our community.”
