By mid-2020, patients in Fairlawn, Ohio, will have access to the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Hospital, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
Here are five things to know:
1. The new $100 million hospital will include 60 beds and 12 operating rooms. Physicians will also be able to use expanded imaging services, and patients will have access to an outpatient campus.
2. Crystal Clinic, a physician-owned hospital, has been looking to open the orthopedic hospital since 2008, before the financial crisis hit. During the time, Crystal Clinic created a joint venture with Summa Health and started construction on a six-floor, 75-bed orthopedic campus.
3. After plans were halted, Crystal Clinic began leasing 130,000 square feet on six floors at Summa's St. Thomas hospital in Akron, Ohio. The physician-owned hospital spent years looking for a space to build and move its inpatient services.
4. Crystal Clinic employs 460 people and will add an additional 30 support staff for additional hospital operations. The new hospital will have providers for inpatient and outpatient orthopedic and plastic surgeries.
5. Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Hospital will be the only free-standing specialty orthopedic hospital in the state. The group has 12 locations and roughly 900 employees, including 41 physicians.
