Connecticut orthopedic practice accuses former manager of $50k+ embezzlement: 4 things to know

Practice Management

The former practice manager for Fairfield, Conn.-based Beach Road Orthopedic Specialists is accused of embezzling more than $50,000 from the practice, according to the New Haven Register

Here are four things to know:

1. The practice hired Eileen Johnson in 2008 as a practice manager with responsibility for billing and consulting. She cashed checks for the practice, made deposits and electric payments, according to the report.

2. Initially reported in January 2017, the embezzlement dates back to 2010 when the practice found fraudulent credit card charges. Ms. Johnson also worked for Fairfield Medical Center for a period of time and the hospital found accounting irregularities during her tenure, including a $4,500 check made out to Beach Road Orthopedic Specialists.

3. Beach Road alleges Ms. Johnson opened credit card accounts that were paid for with money from the practice; she also is accused of transferring money to herself.

4. Ms. Johnson is charged with second-degree larceny, first-degree identity theft and first-degree computer crimes, according to the report.
