Newport Beach, Calif.-based Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian unveiled the Fudge Family Acute Rehabilitation Center.
Here are five insights:
1. The 18-bed rehab center is designed for patients recovering from neurological and orthopedic conditions, including orthopedic injuries and surgery as well as spinal cord injury and surgery.
2. The Fudge Family Acute Rehabilitation Center is located on the hospital's Newport Beach campus.
3. Patients stay overnight in the rehab center but wear normal clothes and eat together in a dining room. Hoag designed the center to help patients maximize their independence and offer community living.
4. Hoag's staff includes physicians, rehabilitation nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, a nurse navigator and a recreational therapist.
5. Patients in the rehab center undergo physical, occupational and speech therapy. They also have access to respiratory therapy, dietary services and dietitian consults, laboratory services, pharmacy, radiology, chaplain services and case management.
"We emphasize a combination of physical, occupational and cognitive treatments, within a homelike environment, with family support to maximize personal independence and improve patients' outcomes," said Michael Brant-Zawadzki, MD, senior physician executive and the Ron & Sandi Simon Executive Medical Director Endowed Chair of the Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute at Hoag.
