Study from Spine: 4 trends in physician reimbursement for spinal procedures

A retrospective cohort study in Spine identified trends in University at Buffalo (N.Y.) Neurosurgery's spinal procedure reimbursement rates since 2010.

Here are four things to know:

1. After adjusting for inflation, average overall payments for spinal claims from 2010 to 2016 increased 13.6 percent.

2. Average reimbursement:

  • Declined 1.9 percent from 2010 to 2013
  • Rose 16.8 percent from 2014 to 2016

3. Increases occurred from 2014 to 2016 across all insurers.

4. Since 2010, Medicaid payments more than doubled.
