Former Louisiana Spine & Sports co-owner pleads guilty to receiving $336K kickbacks in urine testing scheme: 4 notes

Gray Wesley Barrow, MD, pleaded guilty for his role in a scheme to receive $336,000 in illegal kickback payments.

Here are four things to know:

1. Dr. Barrow was a co-owner of Baton Rouge-based Louisiana Spine & Sports pain management clinic when the fraud occurred.

2. Dr. Barrow admitted that between April 2014 and July 2016, he sent patients’ urine samples to a drug-testing laboratory received approximately $336,000 in disbursements from the laboratory associated with testing for Medicare beneficiaries.

3. The Medicare Fraud Strike Force, a joint initiative between the Department of Justice and HHS, has charged nearly 4,000 defendants who have collectively billed the Medicare program more than $14 million since its inception in 2007. 

4. Dr. Barrow is scheduled for sentencing on March 1, 2019.
