Metropolitan Methodist Hospital dedicates robotic surgical suites to the late Dr. Naji Tanios Kayruz

San Antonio-based Metropolitan Methodist Hospital dedicated its robotic surgical suites to Naji Tanios Kayruz, MD, who died in February after an alleged drunk driver hit him while he was riding his bicycle, San Antonio Express-News reports.

What you should know:

1. Dr. Kayruz was a general surgeon who specialized in robotic surgery.

2. He spent three decades in medicine, practicing for 27 years at Metropolitan Methodist.

3. Metropolitan Methodist Chief-of-Staff John Etlinger, MD, said, "I will miss him greatly. He was a great doc, a great friend and I trusted him totally. He will always be a part of this hospital."

4. Police arrested Melissa Peoples, 48, the alleged drunk driver who is charged with killing Dr. Kayruz. According to police, she fled the scene after hitting him with her SUV and hit another car shortly thereafter.

5. Ms. Peoples is free on bond and has a case pending in criminal court.
