Late Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee founder Craig Ferrell, MD, died seven years ago, but he'll always be a part of the practice's new Franklin-based medical center, the Brentwood Homepage reports.
What you should know:
1. In the atrium of the newly opened Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee stands Dr. Ferrell's locker from Franklin-based Williamson Medical Center, which now shares its main campus with Bone and Joint Institute. The locker remained untouched after Dr. Ferrell died from injuries sustained after he was thrown from a horse.
2. Dr. Ferrell founded what was then Franklin Bone and Joint Clinic in 1979. Many physicians and employees of the center view the locker as a tribute to what Dr. Ferrell envisioned when he founded the practice.
3. The 121,252-square-foot medical center has physician offices, physical and occupational therapy, imaging services and an outpatient surgery center.
Bone and Joint Institute President John Klekamp, MD, said: "The goal for this partnership (with Williamson Medical Center) was to maintain our legacy of 40 years of high-quality, compassionate orthopedic care that began in 1979 when Dr. Craig Ferrell opened the Franklin Bone and Joint Clinic. … This building provides endless opportunities for us to accomplish this shared vision."
