New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery received a $3 million from The Starr Foundation to create the C.V. Starr Endowed Chair in Pain Management.
HSS will use the grant to advance pain management research, program development and physician education.
The funding will improve existing pain management studies and enable the formation of new ones, expediting the research timeline to put findings into practice.
A PhD researcher will also be onboarded to coordinate studies across the hospital, improve safe prescribing practices and investigate alternatives to opioids.
