Orlando (Fla.) Health plans to build a $250 million orthopedic hospital after acquiring one of the area's largest independent orthopedic practices, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Five insights:
1. Orlando Health acquired Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic for an undisclosed sum. The Orlando-based practice accommodates more than 250,000 patient visits annually.
2. With Jewett's 25 orthopedic physicians and 13 advanced practitioners becoming health system employees, Orlando Health plans to begin construction on the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Hospital this spring.
3. The hospital is slated to open on Orlando Health's downtown campus in 2023. It will feature hotel-style concierge services, a diagnostic center, 20 operating rooms, a retail pharmacy, an outpatient rehabilitation gym, a sports performance center, 66 patient exam rooms and up to 75 beds.
4. Jewett will retain its name at its eight locations, but Orlando Health's brand will be added to the logo.
5. The fee schedule for procedures done at Jewett clinics will not be hospital-based, according to Jewett CEO Jon Albert, meaning prices will remain the same for patients.
"We share a vision to really build something that is going to offer things to patients that I don't think they have in this region from an efficiency standpoint, technology standpoint and concierge services," said Jewett President Michael Jablonski, MD. "It's something that will be very unique and very special."
