A 30-bed orthopedic unit opened Nov. 19 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, according to The Gainesville Sun.
Four things to know:
1. Patients undergoing spine surgeries and total joint replacements will be cared for in the unit.
2. The facility is part of a $90 million expansion, which includes an 18-bed ICU and a 24-bed level III neonatal ICU.
3. About 200 jobs, including 100 nursing positions, will be added to the hospital's 2,800-plus workforce once the project is completed.
4. North Florida Regional Medical Center performed 20,000 surgeries in 2019 and has five types of surgical robots.
