New Haven, Conn.-based Yale University has launched a neurotrauma program to serve as a research hub and destination for clinical care, according to India Education Diary.
The program will focus on developing diagnostic techniques and therapeutic approaches to treating spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries.
Neurosurgeon Sacit Omay, MD, and Emily Gilmore, MD, a critical care neurologist, serve as co-directors of the neurotrauma program, which features neurosurgeons, neurointensivists, general trauma surgeons and neurologists.
Yale aims to "create a Center of Excellence for clinical management of neurotrauma," Dr. Gilmore told the publication in a Dec. 4 interview.
The program will focus on "understanding the pathophysiologic mechanisms of traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries and their sequelae as well as developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches that ultimately improve functional and cognitive outcomes," she added.
