Arizona, Connecticut & Florida: 3 new spine, orthopedic institutes

Practice Management

In the last month, Becker's has reported on three new spine and orthopedic institutes in Arizona, Connecticut and Florida:

The orthopedics program at Flagstaff-based Northern Arizona Healthcare has been designated as an Orthopedic and Spine Institute, two years after its inception. It is the first program to be recognized as an institute at Northern Arizona Healthcare, which will collaborate with Phoenix-based Banner Health to research ways to improve patient care and outcomes.

The Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport opened Feb. 24, four years after sister hospital MidState Medical Center in Meriden, Conn., debuted the institute's first location. St. Vincent's spine program was recently named an Aetna Institute of Quality for Spine Surgery, and it hopes to achieve the advanced total joint certification with the Joint Commission in the spring.

Aventura (Fla.) Hospital and Medical Center opened a 90,000-square-foot tower that houses its Orthopedic & Spine Institute. The expansion was a $60 million investment by Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare and HCA East Florida.
