Reston (Va.) Hospital Center, part of HCA Virginia Health System, is injecting almost $20 million into its surgery department to expand spine and orthopedic services, among other specialties.
The project will build four large operating rooms and update suites to cater to the hospital's robotic surgery program, which performs more than 10,000 procedures a year.
The expansion will allow Reston Hospital to treat more complex spine and orthopedic cases. It will also bolster minimally invasive surgery for a range of specialties, including bariatric, colorectal, general, hepatobiliary, gynecologic, thoracic and urologic surgery.
"This is an important investment in the growth of Reston Hospital's advanced surgical program," John Deardorff, CEO of the HCA Healthcare Northern Virginia market and Reston Hospital Center, said in a June 28 news release. "This infusion of capital will upgrade our surgical capability and capacity to help deliver a world-class surgical experience for our patients and surgical care teams."
The $20 million surgical expansion follows a $70 million capital investment and expansion plan that includes a new emergency department, an inpatient rehabilitation center expansion, technology upgrades and other modernization efforts.
The surgical expansion begins this summer.
