Roper St. Francis hospital in Charleston, S.C., added a spine and neurosurgery program in May, NBC affiliate Count on News 2 reported July 21.
The hospital's $1 million facility has three pods that can run two clinics and has exam, procedure and recovery rooms. The neurosurgeons working there are the first in Berkeley County, Lila Elshazly, Roper St. Francis' manager of neurosciences, told the station.
"As soon as we opened this facility and emergency room, it was full of patients," Byron Bailey, MD, director of neuroscience at the hospital, told the station. "The patients that live in this area want to be able to have a community option to have healthcare."
