NorthShore University HealthSystem hired neurosurgeon Amin Kassam, MD, to lead the NorthShore Neurological Institute at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights, Ill.
Over the past two decades, Dr. Kassam has led four neurosurgery programs, founded or held leadership roles in various technology startups and held executive healthcare administration leadership positions needed to translate these innovations through integrated service line delivery models, NorthShore said in an Oct. 13 news release.
He previously served as chair of neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Most recently, he was chief scientific strategist, vice president of neurosciences, and chair of neurological surgery for Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Aurora Health Care.
Dr. Kassam brings innovative procedures that he has pioneered over the past two decades, such as the expanded endonasal approach (transnasal) brain surgery, conscious surgery and new technologies in brain mapping and optical robotics to NorthShore's spine and brain team.
"We are proud to offer a unique and dedicated neurosciences department under Dr. Kassam's leadership that, while serving as a global destination center, will expand our scope of care for our community and the region, offering world-class care in our back yard," Steve Scogna, CEO and president of Northwest Community Healthcare, said in the release.
