Orthopedic center set to open in 2020 enters final stages of construction

Practice Management

St. Luke's Health System is entering the final stages of construction on the Boise, Idaho-based Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, which was originally set to open in 2020, according to a Sept. 5 report from BoiseDev.

Construction on the project began in 2018 but stalled from 2020 to 2021, according to the report.

The delay was partly due to St. Luke's choosing to shift the project from a hospital to an outpatient surgery center, which required reconfiguring the internal layout.

It is now set to be open for patients in February 2024. One half of the 230,000-square-foot building will be for orthopedics, while the second half will be for sports medicine.

The orthopedic side will house 12 operating rooms and patient recovery rooms. The sports medicine clinic will house a rehabilitation center for physical therapy patients. The center will also include an orthopedic urgent care center.

The building is expected to have close to 400 employees working each day when it opens its doors.
