Idaho court sides with woman fired from spine practice

Practice Management

An Idaho court struck down a neurosurgery practice's request for a new trial related to a wrongful termination verdict handed down in September 2022.

Briana Colo worked as a surgery scheduler at Boise, Idaho-based Neuroscience Associates, according to a memorandum decision filed June 15 in the U.S. District Court for Idaho. She alleged that a surgeon made discriminatory comments at the office and acted inappropriately toward her.

Ms. Colo was fired from the practice in 2018, won a jury trial in 2022 and was awarded $300,000 in back pay and $130,333 in front pay. She had accused the practice of wrongfully terminating her in retaliation for plans to report the alleged harassment.

The Idaho District Court denied the practice's motions for a directed verdict and a new trial.
