Cincinnati-based Mercy Health has finalized its planned acquisition of Paducah-based Orthopedic Institute of Western Kentucky, according to a Jan. 20 report from the Times Leader.
The acquisition was announced earlier this month and was met with some concerns from the community.
Some patients of the orthopedic institute and of Louisville, Ky.-based Baptist Health expressed concerns about how it might change their access to care. Currently, the institute's surgeons provide call coverage for Baptist Health orthopedic patients. Mercy Health and Baptist were both vying to acquire the practice.
Mercy, the institute and Baptist assured patients that the acquisition would not impact care for any involved.
The Orthopedic Institute will be renamed "Mercy Health — Paducah Orthopedic Center" and will bring together the expertise of physicians from both systems. The institute's seven physicians, nine physician assistants and one nurse practitioner will join the Mercy Health team.
